Step 1: Open the Sign Cabinet

  • Check the manufacture date. If your sign was made before November 1st, 2019, you must first open the cabinet to reach the internal parts.
  • Locate the locks. You will find either two or three locks positioned along the bottom edge of the sign.
  • Unlock the cabinet. Use your provided digital sign keys to release each lock.
  • Open the door slowly. After you finish unlocking, carefully swing the hinged door open.
  • Perform a visual check. Finally, look inside the cabinet to inspect the components before you move to the next step.

Step 2: Identify the Failed Power Supply

Before you replace any parts, you must figure out which power supply is broken. This is usally a very simple process.

Look for the Green Indicator Light

Each power supply has a small light near the top of the unit. When you check these lights, keep the following in mind:

  • Green light on = the unit is operating normally
  • No green light = the unit has likely failed

If you see one unit without a green light while the others are glowing, you have found the problem.

What If Every Power Supply Unit Has a Green Light?

Sometimes, a power supply might look like it is working even when it isn’t. If all the lights are on but you still have problems, you may need to use a tool called a multimeter to check the actual voltage. Because of this, it is important to follow standard testing steps whenever you are fixing a display.

Step 3: Shut Off Power to the Sign

After you have found the broken power supply, you must turn off the power to the sign entirely. This is one of the most critical steps in the whole repair process, so please do not skip it.

Firstly, verify these three things:

  • You have fully disconnected the power source.
  • The display is no longer glowing or active.
  • The wiring and internal parts are now safe to touch.

Next, only move forward once you are absolutely certain the sign is powered off.

Step 4: Disconnect the Input Wiring

First, ensure you have turned off and diconnected the power to the sign. Once power is safely off follow these steps to remove the faulty power supply:

  1. Locate the three input terminals at the bottom of the power supply unit.
  2. Loosen the terminal screws carefully.
  3. Pull the wire away from the terminals to disconnect them.

To help remember how everything goes back together later, you might find it helpful to:

  • Take a quick photo of the wiring before you unhook everything.
  • Label each wire with a piece of tape if they look similar.
  • Focus on one wire at a time so you don’t get overwhelmed.

Step 5: Unplug the Output Wiring

First, find the six output wire connections on the top of the power supply. Carefully unplug each one.

An important tip: As you disconnect these wires, pay close attention to where each one goes. Proper wire placement is vital for setting up your new unity later. To make reassembly easier, use your phone to take a photo of the wiring before you remove anything.

Step 6: Take Out the Faulty Power Supply

Once you have disconnected all the wiring, you can remove the power supply from its bracket.

  1. Find the four screws that hold the power supply in place.
  2. Carefully unscrew them and move them to a safe spot. You will need these exact same screws to install your replacement unit.
  3. Lift the old power supply out of the cabinet after you have removed all the screws.

Step 7: Install the Replacement Power Supply

First, place the new power supply unity into the cabinet. Be sure to position it exactly like the original unit so the wires reach their terminal and the air flows correctly.

Next, use the four mounting screws you removed earlier to secure the unity. Tighten the screws firmly, but be careful not to over-tighten them. When you are finished, the power supply should feel stable and secure without using excessive force.

Step 8: Reconnect the Output Wiring

Now, you will reconnect the six output terminals located on the top of the power supply. It is very important to pay close attention to the wire polarity during this step.

Follow these general guidelines:

  • Connect black wires to the negative (-) terminals
  • Connect red wires to the positive (+) terminals

Next, make sure to double-check every connection before moving forward. Incorrect wiring can prevent proper operation and may potentially damage components. Taking a few extra minutes to verify wire placement is always worthwhile.

Step 9: Reconnect the Input Wiring

Once you have finished the output wiring, you can reconnect the three input terminals located at the bottom of the power supply. Correct placement is vital to safetly and performance.

Follow this wiring configuration:

Ground Wire

First, connect the green wire to the terminal marked with the ground symbol.

Neutral Wire

Next, attach the white wire to the terminal labeled “N”

Line Wire

Finally, connect the black wore to the terminal labeled “L”

Before you continue, gently tug on each wire to ensure it is secure. It is important to avoid loose connections, as they can cause the device to stop working or create maintenance problems later on.

Step 10: Close the Sign and Restore Power

Once you have checked the wiring and securely mounted the new power supply, you can close the sign cabinet. First, use the sign keys to lock the cabinet. Then, restore power to the sign.

Please be patient after turning the power back on! Digital signs often need up to a full minute to start up and get ready. This waiting period is a normal part of the process.

Step 11: Verify Proper Operation

After the sign finishes starting up, you should test it to make sure everything works perfectly. To do this, cycle through your different display messages.

What to look for:

  • Brightness: Does the light level look correct?
  • Consistency: Is the display running smoothly without flickering?
  • Image Quality: Are the pictures and words showing up clearly?
  • Full Lighting: Are all parts of the display lighting up as they should?

Finally, if your sign has two sides, remember to check both. This confirms that the repair was a success and that every part of your sign is working just like new.
